Penny Leyton
I’m not sure exactly when Penny left The Belle Stars but it was sometime before the release of Iko Iko in May 1982 which was the first single that featured Clare Hirst.
At some point after leaving The Belle Stars Penny joined The Deltones.
The Deltones were one of the few female ska/reggae bands in the United Kingdom, formed in 1985 by ex-Delta 5 vocalist Jacqui Collins and keyboard player Sara McGuiness. The group went through numerous personnel changes during the half a decade that they were together. Their debut album, Nana Choc Choc in Paris, featured trumpet player Penny Leyon, saxophonists Anna Keegan and Nicky Ford, guitarist Serena Parsons, keyboardist Julie Liggett, bassist Anna Risler, and drummer Jeremy Brill. Vocal harmonies were furnished by Amanda Fenn, Dill Hammond and Verona Davis. The group disbanded shortly after the release of their second album, Oddball Boy, in late 1989.
