Japanese "Suntory" beer commercial The Belle Stars recorded a song for a Japanese beer (Suntory) commercial in 1983. They also appeared in the commercial. As far as I know it has never been seen on UK TV and I have never been able to track down a full version of this song. This appears to be the only time a snippet was played on the radio! Enjoy!
Suntory - The Belle Stars
Please let me know if you have the full version!
Radio 1 sessions The Belle Stars played two Radio 1 sessions, one with Dave "Kid" Jensen and the other with Richard Skinner.
Dave "Kid" Jensen (on B15 in 1982): Sweet Memory The Clapping Song Burning Iko Iko
Richard Skinner 1981 Turn Back The Clock
Anyone know what the other songs were???
The Snake - original version circa 1981/1982 There is a different version to the one that appeared on their 1983 album.
Sweet Memory - star-shaped picture disc I think 5000 of these were pressed but there were also 500 purple copies printed. These are rarer but do pop up on Ebay now and again. Even rarer are the uncut picture discs i.e. it's a clear 12" vinyl with the star shape but it hasn't been cut into a star yet.
World Domination - square picture disc I've seen a few of these pop up on Ebay but I was lucky enough to also get an uncut picture disc of this one.
Check In, Check Out This was a three piece Belle Stars song on the soundtrack of The Burglar, featuring Whoopi Goldberg.
Pack of playing cards Released around 1983 to promote The Belle Stars first album.
Belle Stars puzzle Again, I think this was to promote The Belle Stars album.
The Belle Stars - live in concert - Radio 1 - 1982 Recorded around the release of The Clapping Song, this live concert was aired on Radio 1. Includes the following tracks, Blame, The Snake, Turn Back The Clock, Baby I'm Yours, Burning, Slick Trick, Indian Summer, The Reason, Sweet Memory and Iko Iko.
The Entertainer - TV performance on Hold Tight This was a different version of The Entertainer and aired on TV several months before the single was released..
Breaker J vs The Belle Stars - The Clapping Song 2005 Great remix of The Clapping Song from 2005. I think it's Toni Basil's Mickey mashed up with The Clapping Song.
The Belle Stars (7-piece) - Album 2 - unreleased The 2nd album had just been finished when the band decided to split. The album would have included the following tracks:
Is This The Night? Cool Disguise Sacrifice Fatal Flaw Payback Well I Wonder Crime of Passion Daydreamer Fickle Finger of Fate
The Belle Stars (3-piece) - 3rd album - unreleased Lesley, Miranda and Sarah-Jane recorded an album but the record company never released it. Tracks that would have been included on the album:
World Domination Every Heart Should Have A King Walking Free
Point of interest - Miranda recorded saxaphone for World Domination but it was never used in the final release of the song.
Let's hope the album does get a release someday. Would be great to hear the original version of World Domination with Miranda's sax too.
According to BS Bandits, they had recorded at least 9 demo’s.

The Young Punx - cover of The Belle Stars version of The Clapping Song Not strictly speaking a Belle Stars rarity, but I’ve included this because it samples a tiny snippet of the original Belle Stars track.
Yo! Majesty - Grindin & Shakin - (Iko Iko sample) A sample of ‘Iko Iko’ is used on the track ‘Grindin and Shakin’ on Yo! Majesty’s album ‘Futuristically Speaking, Never be Afraid’ released earlier this year. They’re an American hip hop group consisting of rapper Shunda K and singer Jwl B, produced by UK based electro due ‘Hard Feelings UK’.
